Does anyone's AB ever get confused with a pittbull? My Molly is 8 months and everywhere I go people think she is. I don't know for sure if she is purebred, but I wasn't looking to get a pitt. Just wondering if this is a common occurance.
Thanks. _________________ Mom to Trixie (boxer) and Molly (bulldog) |

| Yes, this happens a lot. Most people haven't heard of, let alone seen an American Bulldog before. My rednose female gets called a pit all the time. I end up educating the public everywhere I go with my dogs. |

People come up to us at least once a day when we are walking Ty and comment on our "Nice Pit". On the weekends, it's usually 2-3 times. Funny, I've never made a comment about another persons dog. But people feel it's necessary to comment about ours. I've actually gotten into arguments with people over what breed of dog he is. People are stupid and that will never change.
He's almost a year old and getting big so now they say "Damn that's a big pit" and if my wife is walking him alone she says "yes he is" and she keeps walking.
We also live close to a bad area of Chicago with tons of pits so it's a little more understandable.

Yup, some people think Sarge is a Pit.. esp because he kind of the size of a Pittie right now.. One time a mother grabbed her child away from Sarge because he was a GASP - Pit Bull!... Once he gets older I think it will change though... _________________ Belinda

Most people dont know what a pitbull is..so any muscular dog with short hair becomes a pitbull in their mind.
People have asked or called my Brutus a pit before. I just ask the last time they saw a 100lb pit with a snub nose. _________________

That makes me feel a ton better! I even had the vet tell me she's a pitt! But her dad was 100 lbs and way bigger than any pitt i've seen! Well at least i'm not the only one. She doesn't have quite the snub nose as some of the AB do. But she's way bigger, 60 lbs at 8 months! I've been trying to figure out how to post pics, anyone care to share? _________________ Mom to Trixie (boxer) and Molly (bulldog) |

| Mine could easily be mistaken for a very large and over par muscular boxer...small head leads people to think that way...I dont mind. |

Doris is more boxer-looking than an american bulldog.
But helga has been pit bull for a long time - think she does not look like a one. More like an american bully.

Bahiska, your dogs are beautiful.
And in general the longer your ABs muzzle is, the more ignorant people will ASSume its a pit.
Generally speaking people either run like hell from my dogs or they come up excitedly asking if they are ABs and if they can pet them. Not much in between. _________________ http://wildlinebullies.homestead.com/ |

Wildline:
Thank you! I have the same feeling - either they come running towards or go running....
Helga has one time been said to be "that kind of an attack dog..."
Well we were playing football and I said that she is on the defensive side and I try to get through her with the ball...
(Helga plays really nicely with only paws - not trying to steel the ball all the time) _________________ www.abhealthdatabase.com |
