The Rose family with their Best in Show American Bulldog at the 2006 John D. Johnson Spring Classic

Our Story

There are families who have dogs… and then there are families who are quietly shaped by them.

Ours has always been the second kind.

It started long before websites, tools, or registries. Back when life was simpler, a little louder, and a lot more chaotic. Lance grew up around dogs. His family bred Dalmatians, and those early years weren't just about litters and pedigrees. They were about muddy paws on the kitchen floor, early mornings, late nights, and the kind of responsibility you don't learn from books.

When we started our own journey in the 90's, it felt natural. We began with Dalmatians too, building our lives around them the way dog people always do. Not neatly. Not perfectly. But fully.

Then in 1998, everything changed.

We brought home our first American Bulldog from John D. Johnson, the man widely known as the father of the breed in North America. That moment didn't just introduce us to a new dog. It introduced us to a calling.

American Bulldogs Are Not Easy Dogs

They're powerful, emotional, stubborn, loyal to a fault, and deeply connected to their people. They demand time, patience, and understanding. They will test you. They will frustrate you. And then, without warning, they will look at you in a way that makes everything make sense.

That kind of dog doesn't just live in your home. They become part of your story.

Growing Up Together

As our family grew, so did the dogs.

Four kids, dogs underfoot, noise, laughter, mess, responsibility. The kind of household where there's always something happening and rarely a quiet moment. Kids and dogs have a way of growing up together. They learn from each other in ways you can't teach.

Dogs don't care about bad days, mistakes, or who you're trying to be. They meet you exactly where you are, every single time. And when kids grow up with that kind of presence in their lives, it shapes them.

We've seen it firsthand.

From Passion to Purpose

Over the years, what started as a passion became something much bigger.

Eventually, we took ownership of the American Bulldog Registry & Archives and expanded into building platforms like pedigreedatabase.ca and continuing our work through Rosebull Kennel American Bulldogs.

But through all of that, one thing never changed.

We were still just a family who loved dogs.

The Real Side of Dog Ownership

Because the truth is… owning a dog isn't always pretty.

The Hard Parts

  • Muddy floors.
  • Chewed furniture.
  • Whining.
  • Vet visits.
  • Early mornings when you'd rather sleep.
  • Late nights when something isn't right.

It's commitment. Real commitment.

The Incredible Parts

  • A head resting on your knee when you didn't realize you needed it.
  • A child learning empathy without being taught.
  • A constant, steady presence in a world that doesn't always feel that way.

It's selfless love, given freely.

Why DogResources Exists

DogResources wasn't built as a business idea.

It was built from a lifetime of living this.

And from a simple belief:

If you're going to bring a dog into your life… you should have real, honest, helpful guidance when you need it most.

We've lived the messy parts. We've seen the incredible parts. And we know how powerful that relationship can be when it's done right.

So this is our way of giving back. Not just to the American Bulldog community we love so much, but to every dog owner trying to figure things out, one moment at a time.

Dogs don't just make life better. They make us better.

And that's something worth sharing.
